The material below was written prior to the events -- in essence the "promo" material.

Two events:  Workshop at the Center for the Arts in the Anne & Ellen Theater at 4:00 pm  Reserve a seat here.  The presentation of Khumariyaan is part of Center Stage, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, produced by the New England Foundation for the Arts in cooperation with the U.S. Regional Arts Organizations, with additional support from the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation and the Asian Cultural Council. General Management for Center Stage is provided by Lisa Booth Management, Inc.

Concert @ 130 Jackson Street -- The event will start at 8:00 pm; cover fee is $5.00 (funds will be split between WUVT and the bands).  Beliveau Winery and Strange Coffee will be serving their speciality drinks.  Purchase your tickets here

Sponsors for both events include the Center for the Arts, the CLAHS Dean's Advisory Council on International Initiatives, The Center for the Study of Rhetoric in Society, WUVT, EMCVT, the Artful Lawyer, and, of course, Monkey House.

The Boston Boys:  Future Roots band, The Boston Boys, founded in Boston in 2012, live in Brooklyn, and play around the world. In just two years, they’ve performed in over a dozen countries on several continents. Their unique instrumentation, musicality, and fearless live performance have resulted in partnerships (US State Department, Zoo Labs, The Breeding Ground NYC,) support for other touring artists (The Infamous Stringdusters, The Wood Brothers,) rewarding the band with influences from across the Americas, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Mandolinist, guitarist, and lead singer, Eric Robertson, initiated The Boston Boys as a student at Berklee College of Music. He, along with multi-instrumentalist Duncan Wickel, bassist Josh Hari, and drummer Nicholas Falk deliver a fresh fusion of American music they call "Future Roots." Bedrock artists like Paul Simon, Ray Charles, and The Band contribute spirit and inspiration. Their music is bone-shaking, soulful, and written with reverence for 1950 and 2050, respectively.

Khumariyaan

Transfixing, hyper-folk jams with rich and deep Pushtoon roots...

With its propulsive, furious sound, Khumariyaan "The Intoxicators" has reawakened the live music scene in Peshawar, the ancient crossroads through the Khyber Pass whose contemporary culture is under attack from within and by outside factions. The lute-like Pashtoon rubab, is the meeting point for this instrumental jam quartet. It intertwines with the djembe-like zerbaghali (clay or wooden goblet drum) and Pushtoon sitar (long-necked lute). Underpinning these instruments with driving acoustic guitars, Khumariyaan’s rolling pulse and richly layered sound builds to frenzied intensity. It’s an addictive and accessible pleasure that’s ushering in a new era for an eclipsed music.
